IPSWICH REVIEW (THURS, OCT 16)

A review of the meeting held at Ipswich on Thursday, October 16.

Race 1:

Class 1 Handicap - 2150m.
1st - Strawberry Ripple; 2nd - Daylight Dance; 3rd - Barako

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Brian Smith: “She might not have come back the way the betting suggested she would, but the going and the race circumstances probably contributed to that. She didn’t see another horse from the 500m did she? Not with the blinkers on. When she races against better horses and has got something to chase, we’ll know more.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Approaching the turn out of the front straight on the first occasion Opticks (App R. Hinricks) had to be steadied off the heels of Barako (A. Pattillo) which shifted in.

Race 2:

Class 3 Handicap - 1200m.
1st – Framboise; 2nd - Mona Star; 3rd - Alvaldi

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Robert Heathcote: “Like most horses she’s had some issues. She had a tendon problem as a younger horse. She’s also been a bit unlucky, I guess. Last time when resuming she was kept four wide all the way. Scriven came back and said we should just forget she went around.

“It was different today. He rides a fair race this Speers. We owed the jockey one because it was my horse (Noble Gaze) he was riding when he fell and broke his leg at the Sunshine Coast. And it keeps our run going. My wife showed me the stats this morning before I came to the track. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve had twenty-two winners since the start of August. I’ve gotta be happy with that.”

Apprentice jockey Mitchell Speers: “Yeah, it’s good to be back on a winner. I went forward then something kicked up on my inside so I just sat outside that one. Made my move in the straight and they came at him quite quickly, but he kicked again and did enough. This is my first win since my fall. I was riding in the same colours when the fall happened. Much better result this time.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Framboise (App M. Speers) began awkwardly. Before Hollywood (K. Wharton) was tightened on jumping away between Clearly Vain (A. Pattillo) and Alvaldi (App A. Taylor) both of which shifted ground. Leaving the 200m Clearly Vain and Alvaldi came together and brushed.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Before Hollywood, jockey K. Wharton stated in his opinion the horse had not handled today's track conditions. Trainer A. Doyle confirmed his disappointment with the performance of Before Hollywood and advised stewards he would have a full veterinary examination of the horse carried out in the next few days. Mr A. Doyle was instructed to advise stewards of the results of the veterinary report. A post race veterinary examination of Before Hollywood failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3:

Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate - 1350m.
1st - Miss Hadaway; 2nd - Sweet Marie; 3rd - Mirandize

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bill Abbey: “I wasn’t overconfident but I did think she would handle both the going and the longer trip. She did run on a slow track first time, but that more of a greasy track where we’d only had showers in the morning ... not like the heavy going we got today.
“And I was cleverer this time. She had a good trial behind her. She came second in a trial at Eagle Farm. She went well there then something happened on the turn and she dropped back. But then she got a rail run and finished well to run second.” (The winner of that trial was the John Wallace trained O’Shannassey, who subsequently won on his debut). “She raced again after that over 1200m, but was better prepared this time and the going and extra ground helped her out.”

Jockey Julie Murphy: “They wanted her to be handy. I was held wide though and, in those circumstances, I was happy just to let her roll forward ... and she went on with it in the straight, The one thing you can count on is the fact that Bill Abbey always has his horses fit and ready to run.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Ballet Muse (App C. Isdale) was slow to begin resulting in the horse losing considerable ground. Mirandize (S. Apthorpe) was tightened on jumping away between Sweet Marie (T. Pannell) which shifted in and Miss Hadaway (J. Murphy) which shifted out after beginning awkwardly. Approaching the 1000m Natriddam (App B. Evans) was bumped by Palace Party (App J. Piper) which shifted in and away from Sweet Marie. Approaching the 900m Just A Stunner (G. Hoobin) improved up onto the heels of Palace Party which shifted out forcing Miss Hadaway wider on the track. As a consequence Miss Hadaway raced wide for the remainder of the event. Near the 400m Mirandize was momentarily tightened for room between Sweet Marie and Miss Hadaway which shifted in. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to Slow 7.

Race 4:

C, G & E Maiden Plate - 1350m.
1st - Carry On Kenzie; 2nd - General Remark; 3rd - Son Of The Sea

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Jana Piper: “Yes, it was a good win. Good run throughout. No problems. The trainer is just such a champion to ride for. He puts no pressure on you. He just says ‘go’, and lets you ride your own race.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Tentulari Kakisaya (M. Heagney) over-raced in the early stages and approaching the 1000m shifted in bumping Golden Chase. Son Of The Sea raced wide for the majority of the event. Weslang tired badly over the final 500m resulting in the horse being uncompetitive. G. Irwin trainer of Weslang was advised that the horse would be ineligible to start at TAB meetings until stewards are satisfied that the horse can perform to the desired standard. Son Of The Sea was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Abisque jockey R. Wiggins advised that the horse failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

Race 5:

3YO & Up Class 5 Handicap - 800m.
1st - Vive Le Roi; 2nd – Jokingly; 3rd - Mary's Magique

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Shane Scriven: “I thought he would just go comfortably with them, but he did make me work hard from the top of the straight and I made him work hard. His class carried him through in the end, but the bottom line is he is not an 800m horse. He was good enough for them.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Leaving the 600m Albarista shifted in making heavy contact with the running rail. J. Murphy the rider of Jokingly was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the finish.

Race 6:

QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap - 1100m.
1st – Satula; 2nd - Canadian Pearl; 3rd - De Dion Bouton

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Harold Norman: “Last time, at the coast, the saddle slipped. We put a stronger rider on this time and the race went exactly according to plan.”

Jockey Donald Barron: “It was a good run. He’s still learning. This was only his third start. We were just going to play it by ear. There was no specific plan. We just wanted to let him be comfortable in the running. He raced with cover and then we made our move and he hit the line hard.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Satula (D. Barron) was slow to begin. De Dion Bouton (K. Wharton) began awkwardly. Ignition Miss (S. Scriven) which was slow to begin shifted out making contact with Joe Prankster (A. Pattillo). Joe Prankster was slow into stride. Approaching the 700m Go Easy (A. Spinks) over-raced on the heels of My Fallacy (R. McMahon) and shifted out inconveniencing Anathema (App L. Dittman) and Satula. De Dion Bouton and Hail ‘N Challenge (App B. Evans) raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 7:

Class 1 Handicap - 1100m.
1st – Liberica; 2nd - Steal The Cash; 3rd - Coxswain

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Luke Dittman: “You’ve got to let her do what she wants to do. I took her back early. Let her relax. I gave her a dig at the 600m and let her go. She did the rest.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Irish Singa (G. Colless) was tightened on jumping away between Liberica (App L. Dittman) and Steal The Cash (R. Goltz) both of which shifted ground. Bally Kelly (K. Wharton) shifted out rounding home turn. R. Goltz the rider of Steal The Cash advised steward that the gelding failed to begin as anticipated as a result of the prevailing track conditions and the early tempo of the race.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Irish Singa, jockey G. Colless stated that after being initially tightened at the start the horse did not travel well thereafter. A post race veterinary examination of Irish Singa failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 8:

Class 2 Handicap - 1666m.
1st - Another Speights; 2nd - Bold Distinction; 3rd - Johnny Aucash

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Shane Scriven: “Once again he was just too good you know. It was really easy for him but you can’t get carried away with anything. It was a better run than his previous win. I think he might go 2000m next time.”

Another Speights provided the second leg of a race-day double for owners Reynella Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd (Mgr J C Strachan) and P Williams. This group shared in the earlier success of Vive Le Roi. Both winners were trained by Barry Baldwin and both were ridden by Shane Sriven.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Dustmen (C. Eaton) over-raced in the early stages. Sheeza Drama (App R. Hinricks) raced wide for the majority of the event. Leaving the 500m Johnny Aucash (D. Griffin) and Dustmen came together and brushed.
Sheeza Drama had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the final 300m. C. Eaton the rider of Dustmen was reprimanded for her whip use on the horse over the final 300m when not in contention. Johnny Aucash lost a near-fore plate in running.

DOOMBEN REVIEW (WED, OCT 15)

A review of the meeting held at Doomben on Wednesday, October 15.

Race 1:

Maiden Plate - 1640m
1st – Heartland; 2nd – Smartness; 3rd - Crackinghorseluck

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Shaun Dwyer: “The extra ground helped but I really don’t know if the others were much good. I actually think she is looking for 2000m and she certainly will be given that chance sometime in the future. She’ll probably have another run before that though. No, Jim did not jump ship. (Jim Byrne had ridden Heartland in the mare’s two previous starts). Laura rides some work for me and I thought I’d give her a chance.”

Jockey Laura Cheshire: “This is my first City winner in Australia. I’ve been here about fifteen months. I came over from New Zealand and then EI broke out. My first winner in Australia was for Shaun Dwyer at the meeting held at Deacon during the EI crisis. I won on Teary Eyed, who actually beat Heartland who was the favourite on the day ... and now Heartland has given me my first city winner so the early connection has come through again.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
When the pace slowed leaving the 1200m, Smartness (S. Cormack), which commenced to pull hard at the heels of Heartland, shifted out and raced 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Stewards questioned J. Byrne and trainer M. Webb in relation to the disappointing performance of Nobby’s Mate. J. Byrne explained that throughout the race today the horse did not feel comfortable, and when asked for an effort on straightening, Nobby’s Mate did not let down under hard riding as expected and in fact was under pressure before the home turn. Mr Webb stated that whilst the horse has only had a couple of starts this preparation, he felt that Nobby’s Mate may be looking for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of Nobby’s Mate failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the performance of Costplus, M. Bennett was unable to offer any tangible explanation other than the horse did not perform up to expectations. Trainer B. Laming was also unable to provide any valid reason for the performance and advised that he would now review the gelding's current program.

Race 2:

3yo Maiden Plate - 1350m
1st - Vintage Mo; 2nd - Handon Hero; 3rd - Bootooloo

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Stable spokesman Scott Morrisey: “I said just take him to the front mate. It was a big run last time from a bad barrier on his debut. He lost to an older horse who came out and won again next time. He did it at both ends on his debut and we thought if he could run his own race, and get a jump on the others, they would struggle to catch him.”

Vintage Mo was jockey Joshua Jones’ first winner since his city riding license was re-instated.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
As a result of the pace slowing leaving the 1200m, Handon Hero (L. Rolls), Rocking Rooney (S. Scriven) and Prince Royale (S. Galloway) all pulled hard. S. Galloway, rider of the 4th placegetter, Prince Royale, was fined $400 for failing to ride his mount right out to the end of the race. AR137(b) A post-race veterinary examination of Vintage Mo revealed the horse to be suffering from mild heat stress.

Race 3:

Class 5 Handicap - 1350m
1st – Jujulio; 2nd - Gun Belle; 3rd - Romantic Journey

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Tony Crane: “It was a good effort second-up. It was still nowhere near his right distance. He wants 2000m. The small field is always a worry, but things worked out perfectly.”

Jockey Jim Byrne: “I waited a bit and I would have been happy to go forward, but they took it up halfway through which is all I needed. I just wanted it to be close to a genuine speed and that was good enough for me. The horse finished it off well.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
As B. Pengelly failed to arrive on course in time to fulfil his engagement on Jujulio, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of Jujulio. B. Pengelly was fined the sum of $200. LR49. Trainer M. Mair was fined $100 for presenting Crystal Sentinel to the enclosure without its tongue tie. Crystal Sentinel (K. Pope) jumped outwards at the start and made heavy contact with Blue Oyster (L. Rolls), forcing it out on to Jujulio (J. Byrne). Crystal Sentinel pulled hard in the middle stages and was inclined to lay out after leaving the 800m.

Race 4:

CG&E Maiden Handicap - 1110m
1st – Rublana; 2nd – Encosticated; 3rd - Kyuss

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Cherie O’Neill: “I got the horse from Bevan Laming. The reason for dropping back in distance was that I just decided to go back and start from scratch. I had no great expectations, but I’m obviously happy to get a win for the owners.”

Jockey Danny Craven: “He raced well until he hit the front. He was ready to give it away halfway up the straight. He needed that other horse to come at him and when that happened, he took it on again ... fought on well.”

Rublana was Craven’s third winner in the last eight days. He is quickly making his mark following a lengthy absence from Queensland racing.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Sandminer was declared a late scratching at 2.14 pm after the horse was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Trainer B. Bowditch was advised that Sandminer must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
Bandito Rapido (M. Palmer) was slow to begin.
Stewards questioned trainer P. Duff and apprentice M. Radecker regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of Classic Force, which finished midfield. M. Radecker stated that she rode the horse hard in the early stages to hold a position, however rather than continuing to engage in a speed battle, she eased the horse around the first turn, however Classic Force dropped the bit and lost ground, finishing towards the rear of the field. She added that the horse obtained an uninterrupted run along the rails in the straight, however felt extremely awkward in its action and had a tendency to lay out, which restricted her in fully testing her mount. The explanation was noted. The Snicster lost its off hind plate in running.

Race 5:

F&M Handicap – 1110m
1st – Laravissante; 2nd – Yatala; 3rd - Ensconce/Don't Push Me

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Robert Heathcote: “She’s a nice horse. That is why we were so confident. We didn’t really want to ride him that way but over this distance we didn’t really have too much option. She will need further.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Beautiful (R. McMahon), Burn So Cool (T. Pannell), Questify (P. Hammersley) and Hitno Bay (A. Pattillo) missed the start. Erintee (A. Spinks), Tikit To Glory (D. Griffin) and Stratplan (J. Taylor) raced wide in the middle stages. Beautiful (R. McMahon) improved on to the heels of Yatala (B. Pengelly) near the 50m and was obliged to shift out.
Hitno Bay (A. Pattillo) hung out badly rounding the home turn and was not competitive over the concluding stages. When questioned, jockey A. Pattillo stated that the horse felt uncoordinated and was breathing abnormally over the latter stages and as such he eased the horse out of the race for fear something was amiss, dismounting just past the finishing line. A post-race veterinary examination of Hitno Bay failed to reveal any abnormalities however due to an abnormal respiratory noise, stewards ordered Hitno Bay must trial satisfactory prior to its next race start, as well as having an endoscopic examination carried out, with the results provided to Queensland Racing.

Race 6:

Class 4 Handicap - 1640m
1st - D'Elcatraz; 2nd - No Technique; 3rd - Life's Short

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Paula Campbell: “I didn’t think they would let him lead again. I thought they would have learnt from last time. Not surprising he kicked on so well. He’s bred for a mile-and-a-half.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Prince Puzzle bled from both nostrils during the event. As this was the second time that Prince Puzzle had bled, the gelding now would be barred from racing for life.

Race 7:

Class 3 Handicap - 1350m
1st –Shifteman; 2nd - War Eagle; 3rd - Maximiss

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bruce Brown: “The gear changes (nose roll off first time; pacifiers on first time) were a factor. She shied at the running rail last time. But it was also a different class today – an easier class. Last time in the stronger class they ran faster sectionals. This tempo here was more to his liking.”

Jockey Brad Pengelly: “He is still doing things wrong in the running – but he is learning. He is not quite there yet. but he will make quite a good horse when he does do everything right. Not quite there yet though.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Notre Amour reared in the barriers and got it a foreleg over the barrier partition. A veterinary examination revealed the mare not suitable to race. As Notre Amour has had a history of misbehaviour at the barriers and has been barred on 3 previous occasions, stewards ordered that Notre Amour will have its nomination to race refused for 2 months, and will have to obtain 3 barrier certificates, 2 of which must be obtain in official trials. AR50.
Gelmood (C. Reith) jumped away awkwardly and got its head up and was inclined to over-race after leaving the 1200m. Leaving the 1200m, Shifteman (B. Pengelly) had to be restrained off the heels of Simian Express (L. Rolls). Simian Express had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the straight and until leaving the 200m. Near the 300m, Rabbit Nagina was disappointed for a run between Maximus (D. Griffin) and Gelmood (C. Reith), and when the horse was making ground, had to be steadied close to the finish line after improving on to the heels of Shifteman (B. Pengelly).

Race 8:

Class 3 Handicap- 1110m
1st –Fiamore; 2nd - Lachlan Valley; 3rd - Atomic Huss

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Fiamore was held wide throughout but was produced on cue by Brad Pengelly to race into contention when it mattered most. The gelding had to dig deep to see off the determined challenge of Lachlan Valley in a stride for stride battle to the line which was eventually resolved in favour of Fiamore by a nose.
Fiamore gave jockey Brad Pengelly a race to race double. The rider might well have had a hat trick on the day. Pengelly was due to ride Jujulio, the winner of the third race, but he failed to make it to the track in time to take up that engagement.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Kenshe (R. McMahon) jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Atomic Huss (L. Rolls) jumped away awkwardly and also lost ground at the start. Leaving the 700m, City Lights (J. Holder) raced in restricted room between Fiamore (B. Pengelly) and Dr Kah (A. Pattillo), which attempted to move away from the rails. Fiamore raced wide throughout.
Stewards questioned jockey A. Pattillo and trainer S. Dwyer regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of Dr Kah, which did not finish the race off as expected. A. Pattillo stated that he intended to position his mount behind the leader, however after being a little slow to jump, he rode his mount hard to maintain a positon midfield and that after leaving the 700m he attempted to shift out from behind the heels of Falah and at that point made heavy contact with City Lights, which maintained its position. A. Pattillo explained from that point the horse seemed to drop the bit, and on straightening was reluctant to take runs to the inside of horses. He added that the horse, whilst stepping up to a Class 3, he felt that Dr Kah was somewhat immature and would be better suited over longer distances. Mr Dwyer confirmed his instructions and agreed that with the assessment of A. Pattillo, however he stated he would review the horse's preparation over the next 48 hours. He undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that becomes apparent with the horse. A post-race veterinary examination of failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Thursday 16 October 2008

Following the poor performance of COSTPLUS, trainer B. Laming advised Queensland Racing Limited Stewards that after giving further consideration to the disappointing run of the horse and holding discussions he felt the horse may have got its tongue over the bit and has reviewed his decision to spell the horse and intended to experiment with a tongue tie on the horse.

SUNSHINE COAST REVIEW (SUN, OCT 12)

A review of the meeting held at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, October 12.

Race 1:

QTIS Maiden 3yo Plate - 1200m
1st - La Bandera; 2nd - Craiglea Falcon; 3rd - Prince Echelon

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Les Ross: “Improved run obviously. The extra ground and the going helped. Otherwise you could perhaps put it down to the fact that she is getting more experienced. She’d had three runs which some of the opposition hadn’t. It just goes to show you. You never know how close you are. Shane was ready to sack her after her last start.”

Co-owner Shane Lister: “I was ready to sack her. You should have seen me at the farm. If I could have found a dog I would have kicked it. I really expected her to do much better than she did last time. I raced her mother and she was pretty handy.
“This was much more like it. You take your wins when you get them because you never know how long it might be till you get the next one ... so I’m enjoying this.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Near the 800m, Implode (S. Cormack) improved onto the heels of Chillabundy (N. Thomas) and had to be steadied. Craiglea Falcon (A. Coome) was held up for clear running from the 600m until approaching the 400m. Implode raced wide throughout. N. Thomas, rider of Chillabundy, and C. Dixon, rider of Suntrader, reported their mounts failed to handle today's track conditions.

Race 2:

Class 3 Handicap - 1200m
1st - Diamond Sapphire; 2nd – Arsang; 3rd - Akoya

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Stewart Mackinnon: “It’s nice that she came back good after a break. Before the spell she had been racing over further, but I think we’ll stick around the sprints for a while. I’m still working her out.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Arsang raced wide from the 600m. Arsang, which was inclined to lay in from leaving the 400m, shifted in near the 150m, inconveniencing Craiglea Pearl (A. Coome).
When questioned, K. Pope stated that, in his opinion, Powerful Elements performed disappointingly. He added that the gelding travelled well until entering the straight, however when placed under pressure, Powerful Elements failed to run on. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3:

Maiden 3yo & Up Plate - 1000m
1st – Emition; 2nd -Hawk Hunter; 3rd - Kiss The King

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Liam Birchley: “He’s not a difficult horse to train, but he does have his issues and so he needs a bit of extra attention. He tends to run on his nerves. That’s why I had him in blinkers first time to try and restrict his view. So he probably didn’t need that incident on the bend. It wouldn’t really have helped with his education, but, those issues apart, he certainly confirmed that he has the type of ability we thought he had, which is good.”

Jockey Shane Scriven: “I thought the blinkers would have helped sort him out, but he wanted to run too fast too quickly after the start. I was still trying to get him to settle when something happened in front of me. It was scary. Thank God for aluminium. I thought we were going to go right through the fence but there it was, the aluminium was buckling, the horse was reefing and pulling. It wasn’t the sort of experience he needed at this stage of his career, but somehow we managed to survive that moment.
“We lost a lot of ground though and I really didn’t think we could still win. I thought that was it. But then I took him to the outside in the straight and he more I gave it to him the more he responded and we got there in the last stride.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Emition (S. Scriven) raced greenly in the early stages. D’Avignon (J. Piper) blundered near the 800m of its own accord.
E. Wilkinson, rider of Hawk Hunter was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 700m he allowed his mount to shift in, resulting in Supremative (D. Barron) having to be steadied and shift in away from the heels of Hawk Hunter resulting in Lisaldatroy (M. Hughes) being tightened for room and having to be checked. S. Scriven, rider of Emition, which was following, was forced to take evasive action and as a result Emition had to be checked and became unbalanced, shifted out, forcing Hennessy Warning out, which resulted in D’Avignon being forced out across the heels of Box Seat (M. Heagney) and having to be checked. E. Wilkinson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 15 October and to expire at midnight, 25 October 2008.
Near the 600m, Emition, which was unbalanced, shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail, losing ground. Cheque For Freedom (J. Taylor) raced wide and hung in throughout the race, resulting in J. Taylor, having to stop riding and straighten the gelding near the 50m.

Race 4:

Maiden Handicap - 1400m
1st - La Mouette; 2nd - Hell Week; 3rd - Irishkiwi

WINNER FEEDBACK:
The Rob Heathcote trained La Mouette scored her breakthrough win in her eighth start. It was a hard-earned success as La Mouette had to draw on both her ability and character to see off the persistent challenge of the Gary Wells trained Hell Week in a thrilling stride for stride battle to the line.
La Moutte provided Heathcote with his fourth winner of the weekend. The trainer, who was away on a quick visit to Tasmania and Melbourne, had sent out three winners on Saturday. On the Fridge won at Eagle Farm while Pyper’s Image and Kentish Rose were successful at the Gold Coast.
La Moutte was also jockey Jim Byrne’s fourth winner of the weekend following his hat trick of wins in back to back races at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Near the 1200m, Wynarae (L. Rolls) shifted in, resulting in Irishkiwi (S. Cormack) being taken in on to Fifibelle (R. McMahon). In this incident, Archway’s Bliss (M. Hughes), which was racing back and to the inside of Fifibelle (R. McMahon), had to be steadied. Leaving the 1000m, Irishkiwi, Shake The Lantern (J. Piper) and So Long (M. Paget) all commenced to over-race when the pace steadied. As a result, Shake The Lantern shifted out abruptly to avoid heels and then raced wide from that point onwards. So Long continued to over-race until a point approaching the 600m. La Mouette (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.

Race 5:

Class 1 Handicap - 1600m
1st – Monchenglabach; 2nd - Box Seat; 3rd - Reigning Kings

WINNER FEEDBACK:
The Bruce McLachlan yard has been struggling to fire in recent times. Monchenglabach gave them reason to smile and provided positive evidence that a corner might have been turned as the four-year-old took no prisoners when scoring in a most authoritive fashion.
Stable jockey Sean Cormack had the gelding towards the rear of the field in the early part but the pair wasn’t prepared to lie in ambush for too long. Cormack asked Monchenglabach to improve his position in the sweep to the turn, which he did in effortless fashion, and then they merely continued their run and hit the lead earlier in the straight than most pundits would have expected.
For a moment the thought lingered that Cormack might have made his move too soon, but that doubt was quickly erased as Monchenglabach quickly opened up a winning lead, to the extent that Cormack was able to totally ease his mount down over the concluding stages and he passed the post with plenty in hand.
It was an impressive win under the steadying burden of 58kg.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Box Seat (M. Heagney) reared at the start, losing ground. Near the 1200m, Femme Lien (M. Paget) had to be steadied when Vettori’s Image (K. Wharton) shifted out to avoid the heels of Refined Desert (G. Baker) when the pace slackened. Approaching the 700m, Raining Kings (O. Turpin), which was racing in restricted room to the inside of Hoodini (M. Hughes), was forced to steady when Refined Desert (G. Baker) shifted out momentarily. Femme Lien (M. Paget), which was following, also had to be steadied. Isti Polly (J. Kropp) raced wide throughout.

Race 6:

Class 6 Handicap - 1800m
1st - Derry City; 2nd - Chicken Bob; 3rd - Winmara

WINNER FEEDBACK:
The Lawrie Mayfield Smith / Luke Rolls combination continues to enjoy a huge strike-rate and they added to their list of winners when Derry City reeled off a second successive victory. The gelding scored with a minimum of fuss, sitting just off the speed in the box seat until Rolls was ready to pull him out and ask him to stretch out. It was a solid performance from all involved in the victory.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
La Marianne (M. Hughes) was tightened for room at the start between Chicken Bob (R. McMahon) and Derry City (L. Rolls), which shifted out. When being steadied La Marianne was inclined to shift out rounding the first turn.

Race 7:

Open Handicap - 1000m
1st – Nexgen; 2nd - Mi Cielo; 3rd - Messiaen

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Mick Mair: “He’s a good horse fresh so I thought he would go fairly well. But he’s never run 1000m before so I didn’t really know what to expect. I would have been happy with a place so the win was a bonus.
“He’s got bad legs so the give in the ground probably helped him and also helped bring the leader back to him. It was a bit of a worry when the leader opened up quite a gap, but there is little you can do about it when you’ve got a back- marker. You can only hope that the leader stops for a .... something, so that you can nail him, otherwise there is little you can do about it. He’s best distance is 1400m and that’s probably where he’ll go next.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer M. Mair was fined $200 for failing to put a stable return in showing the removal of blinkers from Nexgen. Leaving the 400m, Nexgen (K. Pope) shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with Suntanned forcing that horse wider on the track. Black Suit (G. Baker) raced wide throughout.

Race 8:

Class 1 Handicap - 1200 m
1st - Gun Salute; 2nd - Tycoon Ken; 3rd - Waitaseq

WINNER FEEDBACK:
The combination of trainer Barry Baldwin and jockey Danny Craven, who had struck earlier in the week with Greenhide, was again on target when Craven gave Gun Salute a confident ride from a wide alley to claim the last race of the day. The win was full of merit as Gun Salute was winning first-up after a five month layoff and was racing over a distance well short of his best.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Shortly after the start, Fransciscan Friar (A. Badger) was tightened for room between General Purple (K. Pope) and Waitaseq (M. Heagney), which was taken out by Liberty Mist (C. Reith), which shifted out. When the pace slackened approaching the 800m, General Purple and Fransciscan Friar both commenced to over-race. Gun Salute (D. Craven), Tycoon Ken (B. Calkin) and Ashland (T. Dicey) all raced wide throughout.
When questioned, K. Pope stated that, in his opinion, the performance of General Purple was disappointing, and that after having good run in transit, the gelding failed to respond to his riding. He added that General Purple was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages. Trainer T. Hall stated that the horse was disappointing and confirmed that it was his intention to spell General Purple.
A post-race veterinary examination of Leed, which pulled up quickly after the winning post, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

EAGLE FARM REVIEW (SAT, OCT 11)

A review of the meeting held at eagle Farm on Saturday, October 11.

Race 1:

3yo Handicap - 1400m
1st – Portland; 2nd - River Perfume; 3rd - Warrior

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer John Wallace: “He had some trouble in the running on his debut. He just got there next time. He had to be pushed out on the line ... and then today he did it easy. He’s a real good prospect. I’ll have to think about it some more, but I’m considering taking him to the Sandown Guineas, which is towards the end of November. Probably give him another run before then, but that’s a possible target.”

Jockey Jason Holder: “I wanted to ride with cover and didn’t really know when to let him stride. But he was going so well I just let him roll at the top of the straight and he just raced away. I can’t see any reason why he won’t go 1600m. That’s as good a win as I’ve had in a long time.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Shortly after the start Mymysherona (J. Taylor) threw its head in the air when being restrained. Approaching the 1000m Mymysherona, which was over-racing, improved up on to the heels of Warrior Within (P. Hammersley) and had to be steadied. Near the 700m Seesawing (C. Reith) improved up on to the heels of Harold (J. Bowditch) and was obliged to shift three wide. Seesawing then raced wide for the remainder of the event. Passing the 200m Warrior Within was momentarily obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of Monashee Gold (J. Jones). When questioned regarding the performance of Navigation, C. Spry stated that in his opinion the horse may not have handled today's prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of Navigation failed to reveal any abnormalities. A post-race veterinary examination of Harold (J. Bowditch) revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the inside of the off-hind fetlock.

Race 2:

2yo Fillies Plate - 1000m
1st – Paprika; 2nd – Annalisha; 3rd - Motown Lady

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Liam Birchley: “Oh she’s a real good prospect. At Toowoomba the jock gave him one smack only and she powered away to win by six lengths. Here you saw how easy it was. Can’t get carried away because the quality of the opposition is in question, but she’s doing it very well at this stage.”

Jockey Shane Scriven: “She wanted to go and I wanted something to come with here. Liam (Birchley) didn’t really want her to lead, but she only really settled when she was in front. She thought it was just a romp. He was wanting to look around. She saw something close to the line and shied at the winning post. I just had to keep a tight hold on her.
“I don’t know how much she had in the tank, but she was never racing. They could have gone around another time like that and nobody would have gone past her.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Trainer H. Norman was advised that a warning was being placed on Diva Dance, which was difficult to load. Passing the 900m Our Charmaine (E. Wilkinson) improved up on to the heels of Paprika (S. Scriven) and had to be steadied. Near the 700m Likaphantom (D. Gill) improved up on to the heels of Annalisha and had to be steadied. Stopstart, Mindiym (J. Byrne) and Lunar Life (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout. Near the 500m Diva Dance (G. Baker) shifted in abruptly hampering Likephantom. A short distance later Likaphantom shifted out and made contact with Diva Dance. Wicked Angel (J. Bowditch) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. Jockey D. Gill, the rider of Likephantom, pleaded guilty to a charge of using the whip in an excessive manner under AR. 137A(1) and was fined $400. The track rating was downgraded to Heavy 8 following the running of this event.

Race 3:

2yo Colts and Geldings Plate - 1000m
1st - Ready To Venture; 2nd – Southport; 3rd - Fast Lover

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Jason Taylor: “I missed the start on him but he knew what he was doing. He was just cruising and seemed to be enjoying it – especially in the wet. He went through the ground well. I always thought I had the other horse (Southport) beat. He felt like he was going to keep going.
“I just kept at him, showing him the whip, because these first-timers can get a bit lost and start to look around, so I just kept him focussed.”

Ready To Venture was the first of two winners on the day for jockey Jason Taylor. The hoop struck again in the very next race aboard Punch Up.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
As G. Lynch was to be overweight, A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of Hootillla. Stewards will interview G. Lynch at a later date. Trainer N. Hole was advised that a warning was being placed on Craiglea Scorcher, which was difficult to load. Passing the 900m Dane Babylon was momentarily placed in restricted room between Brennan and Hot Shot Henry (J. Bowditch) which shifted in. Craiglea Scorcher (A. Coome) and Australias Finest (A. Taylor) raced wide throughout. Passing the 300m Craiglea King (C. Reith) commenced to lay in and near the 150m shifted in tightening Dane Babylon which had to be steadied. Craiglea King continued to lay in for the remainder of the event.

Race 4:

Class 6 Plate - 1600m
1st - Punch Up; 2nd – Voltabolta; 3rd - Athenas Gift

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Peter Balzen: “Like Jason (Taylor) said, he shied at the winning post because he hadn’t seen it for so long. Look, he was either going to win or run last today. Something had to change from all of those placed runs. He gave no indication that he had trained off so I just let him get on with it.”

Jockey Jason Taylor: “He’s so honest and he has been running behind some good horses. He deserves this win. He loves the heavier going. Last time I won on him was in heavy going so the ground was to his advantage today.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Near the 1100m the saddle on Burgendy Prince (J. Jones) shifted forward, placing apprentice J. Jones at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. Near the 350m Regal Catasnea was hampered when tightened for room between He’s Some Eagle (M. Heagney) and Athena’s Gift (J. Byrne), which shifted out slightly. Approaching the winning post Punch Up (J. Taylor) shifted out abruptly. Jockey S. Galloway stated that Regal Castanea failed to quicken today as at its previous starts due to, in his opinion, the weight and today's track conditions

Race 5:

Open Handicap - 2100m
1st - Pay Me; 2nd – Chiefcomingfirst; 3rd – Currigee

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Tracy Green: “He coped with the track today although he does like to have a bit of firm footing. He didn’t like the tracks during the carnival. They were ... I don’t know what they were ... They were bottomless.
“He’s been building up well this prep. He loves this trip. It’s been difficult to find the right race for him while keeping the weight off. He doesn’t handle weight that well. There’s nothing up here for him for a while now, so I’m possibly looking at taking him to a 2000m welter in Sydney in two weeks time.”

Pay Me broke a bit of a drought for jockey Jim Byrne. “It’s been pi...g me off mate, all of those places without a winner. It’s good to get this one behind me.”

As is often the case, once the drought is broken the floodgates open. Byrne went on to ride the next two winners on the card to complete a hat trick.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Cockaigne (Matthew Palmer) raced wide in the early stages. Cedar Manor (D. Coleman) over-raced in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of Scattergun, jockey S. Galloway stated that the horse never travelled well and in his opinion may not have handled today's track conditions with its allotted weight. Trainer B. Smith stated that he was disappointed with the horse's performance today as he had expected a more forward showing. He advised that the horse would be sent for an immediate spell. A post-race veterinary examination of Scattergun failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6:

Class 6 Handicap - 1200m
1st - On The Fridge; 2nd - Our Magic; 3rd - Pelltro

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Jim Byrne: “She’s a very adaptable horse. You can take her forward. You can take her back. She’s got very smart acceleration and now she looks like she can do that on any ground. I certainly didn’t think she could sprint like that on this going. She’s so versatile you know. Things are really looking good for her.”

On The Fridge was winning for the fifth time in only seven starts for trainer Robert Heathcote.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Rockem (R. McMahon), which was a little slow to begin, was further hampered on jumping away between Monashee Knight (C. Reith), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, and St Verdi (S. Scriven) which shifted in. Catchit (M. Radecker) jumped away awkwardly. On jumping away Camulet (D. Coleman) and On The Fridge (J. Byrne) were tightened for room between Our Magic (A. Pattillo), which shifted out, and Hesashow ( J. Holder), which shifted in after receiving a bump from Socialist (Matthew Palmer). In this incident Camulet had to be steadied. Monashee Knight over-raced in the early stages. St Verdi raced wide throughout. Approaching the 200m Our Magic and Hesashow brushed. A post-race veterinary examination of St Verdi revealed the gelding to be sore in the off-fore fetlock. Trainer B. Baldwin's foreperson was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced and the horse must trial satisfactorily before its next race start.

Race 7:

Quality Handicap - 1200m
1st – Vocalic; 2nd – Forestreno; 3rd - Ghetto Blaster

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Jim Byrne: “The track is pretty uniform (Byrne won on the inside aboard On The Fridge and gave a rail hugging ride on Volcalic). You must bear in mind that the last two winners were both by Easy Rocking and they just swing in this type of going.
“They went pretty slow early. He has a good furlong sprint, so I knew if I went early he would take some catching. They were closing at the line, but he had done enough.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Ghetto Blaster (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly. Passing the 1000m Moglich had to be steadied off the heels of Forestreno(A. Pattillo). Ghetto Blaster over-raced in the early stages. Passing the 800m Bold Reason (J. Taylor) commenced to over-race and did so for a short distance. Cocktail Supreme (M. Radecker), Mr Hornblower (T. Pannell) and Ollie Vollie (S. Galloway) raced wide throughout. Ghetto Blaster shifted out rounding the home turn in an endeavour to obtain clear running and in doing so forced Mr Hornblower and Stylish Qualo (C. Reith) wider on the track.

Race 8:

NMW Handicap - 1400m
1st - Sleek Repeat; 2nd - Tims Image; 3rd - Lucky Luna

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Jockey Andrew Spinks: “I couldn’t keep her any slower on the turn. She was fair dinkum pulling my arms out of their sockets. All the way up the straight there was never any question she would keep fighting. She must be just about the best horse I’ve ridden in my last sixty rides. Some of those have been handy horses but they just haven’t fired for me. This one was all fight. She deserved the result.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Approaching the 1100m Dell Amby (S. Cormack) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Carnegie Prince (S. Galloway), which shifted in. S. Galloway was reprimanded under AR. 137(a). Just A Classic (J. Bowditch) and Battle At Sea over-raced in the early stages. Lucky Luna (A. Pattillo) and Academy Pride (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout. Near the 500m Reincarnation (Matthew Palmer) had to be steadied off the heels of Ninang (A. Coome) which shifted in slightly. Passing the 200m Deception Bay was disappointed for a run between Tims Image (R. McMahon) and Sleek Repeat where there was insufficient room. Deception Bay was then obliged to shift out in an endeavour to obtain clear running. Academy Pride (J. Byrne), which had been laying in for the majority of the event, shifted in near the 150m, making contact with Just A Classic, which in turn shifted in and bumped Androuge.

IPSWICH REVIEW (THURS, OCT 9)

A review of the meeting held at Ipswich on Thursday, October 9.

Race 1:

QTIS 3yo Class 1 Handicap - 1200m
1st – Brav ‘N' Ample; 2nd - Dantain Boy; 3rd – Kwila Sunrise

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Bill Trimble: “He would have done a lot better last start but he cut into himself. There was blood streaming. He did some sesamoid damage. He recovered well and I was going to take him to town last week but I decided to miss that one. I had to go easy on the horse and I wanted to wait and make sure the bruising had healed fully. He came back well today. If they could all come back like that it would be a pleasure.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Dantain Boy raced wide throughout. L. Dittman, rider of Dantain Boy, was examined by the club's doctor after he injured his right leg in the barriers on jumping away and was stood down from his remaining engagements.

*Ipswich is not the luckiest track for Dittman. Previously, a fall at the track put the young rider out of action for several months.

Race 2:

Racing Class 4 Handicap - 1200m
1st - Prayer Chamber; 2nd - Jerome's Star; 3rd - Whimpy

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Chris Dawson: “He’s been going well enough. Then I tried him over a mile which he didn’t get. I gave him a break after that then went to Gympie for a freshener. The track didn’t suit him and they went pretty fast which made it hard for him racing against horses who are trained there. So we came back here with no expectations, but obviously I’m very happy with the result.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Whimpy (S. Scriven) began awkwardly and lost ground. Magique Mine (L. Rolls) also began awkwardly. Ebony Lad (A. Erhart) over-raced in the early and middle stages, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Road To Honours (A. Spinks) raced wide from a point leaving the 600m.
When questioned regarding the performance of Whimpy, jockey S. Scriven stated that whilst the gelding travelled reasonably in running, it failed to show its usual acceleration when placed under pressure in the straight and, in his opinion, finished the race off only fairly. S. Scriven was of the view that Whimpy may be in need of a spell. Trainer G. Clunes agreed with S. Scriven's comments, adding that Whimpy would be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 3:

Ipswich Maiden Handicap - 1710m
1st – Bugsytwoshoes; 2nd - Paleface Warrior; 3rd - Tic Toc Tiger

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer David Kelly: “He has been coming on really well this prep. The 1200m runs were too short for him. Stepped up to 1500m last time and probably was a bit unlucky. The winner went to the inside and he went to the outside and there was only three-quarters of a length in it at the line. I think he got the makings of developing into a nice stayer.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Realante (G. Baker) over-raced in the early stages of the race. Speedy Cash (J. Taylor) raced wide in the early stages. Near the 500m, Realante (G. Baker) shifted out away from Stiletto Heels (A. Pattillo), which also shifted out. As a result, Homesick was forced wider on the track. Passing the 400m, Tic Toc Tiger (A. Taylor) shifted out in order to improve around the heels of Danish King (R. McMahon) and in doing so bumped Speedy Cash. A. Taylor, rider of Tic Toc Tiger, was advised to exercise more care. Paleface Warrior (S. Richardson) shifted out under pressure over the final 200m. Magnifico (J. Holder) raced wide throughout. Trainer R. Pereira was advised that Speedy Cash, which tailed off, would be required to barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Race 4:

Class 5 Handicap - 1710m
1st - Leges Opinio 2nd - Fools Rush In 3rd - Mataranka 4th - Supreme Agenda

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Greg Kennedy: “We thought he’d go well. He was second-up over a more suitable distance and the race went to plan.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Seekawinner (A. Badger) raced wide in the early stages. Rory’s Thunder (A. Spinks) raced wide from the 600m.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Rory’s Thunder, A. Spinks stated that after a slow early pace, the gelding was unable to respond when the pace quickened considerably from the 600m. He added that when placed under pressure at the top of the straight, Rory’s Thunder failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination of Rory’s Thunder failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities. Leges Opinio lost its off-fore plate in running.

Race 5:

Maiden Handicap - 1200m
1st – Maraquitas; 2nd – Liquidate; 3rd - Many Excuses

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Maraquitas (Joe Bowditch) had to win the race twice – once on the track and once in the Stewards room – after a protest was lodged on behalf of Liquidate (Ric McMahon). Evidence was taken from both jockeys involved.

Jockey Ric McMahon (giving evidence at the protest hearing): My horse suffered interference at the home turn. My horse was travelling pretty good within itself when the winner came out and bumped my horse. The interference put us off balance for three or four strides and pushed us out three or four wide. If that hasn’t cost me the race I’ll give it up. If he hadn’t done that, he would have had to come around my heels and I would have been off and gone.”

Jockey Joe Bowditch (giving evidence at the protest hearing): “I travelled just behind the leader. Approaching the turn, Ric’s horse (Liquidate) was inclined to get on one rein and hang out. That left enough of a run between him and the leader for me to take. The leader then shifted out which carried me wider. My horse won on its merits. Liquidate still had the whole length of the straight to pick us up and he couldn’t.”

Maraquitas’s winning margin was a nose. The protest was dismissed.

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
On return to scale a protest was lodged by R. McMahon, rider of the 2nd placegetter, Liquidate, against Maraquitas (J. Bowditch) being declared the winner, alleging interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol videos, stewards found that rounding the home turn, Liquidate, which was racing outside the leader, shifted out slightly, which enabled Maraquitas to force a tight run between those runners, and as a result Liquidate became unbalanced when attempting to hold its position. Whilst stewards acknowledged that Liquidate became unbalanced at this point, taking into account all the circumstances, in particular bearing in mind where the incident occurred in relation to the winning post, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that a reversal of placings was warranted, and therefore the protest was dismissed and correct weight semaphored on the Judge's numbers.
Near the 900m, Got The Cash (W. Clasohm) had to be steadied away from the heels of Just Larry (P. Wolfgram), which shifted in. P. Wolfgram, rider of Just Larry, was advised to exercise more care in future.
A. Spinks, rider of Diamond Jay, was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of his whip on a horse out of contention. A post race veterinary examination of I’montop failed to reveal any obvious abnormalities.

Race 6:

Class 1 Handicap - 1200m
1st - Miz Winfrey; 2nd - Regal Mountain; 3rd - He's Wise

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Ruth Smith (wife of trainer Keith Smith): “The plan was always to be just off the speed and come home over the top of them. We decided to take the blinkers off last time because she tends to over-race with them, but then she played up at the barriers and was withdrawn at the start at Lismore. So they were back on today. Hopefully, with age, she can learn to settle more.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Annamarie (S. Scriven) began awkwardly and lost considerable ground at the start. Miz Winfrey (J. Taylor) also began awkwardly and shifted out, hampering Gothika (S. Richardson). Near the 900m, Christi’s Idol (L. Rolls), when improving, clipped the heels of He’s Wise (M. Hughes) and blundered badly, losing considerable ground. In this incident, Sparkling Tango (A. Spinks), which was following, shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of Christi’s Idol. Annamarie (S. Scriven) was inclined to over-race in the early stages of the event. Annamarie raced wide from a point leaving the 900m. Annamarie was inclined to lay out under pressure from the 200m, placing its rider at a disadvantage. Dancing Beni (G. Baker) and Afling (N. Evans) both raced wide throughout. Christi’s Idol (L. Rolls) lost its off hind plate in running

Race 7:

Class 3 Plate - 800m
1st - Courtyard Circle; 2nd - Hodges Street; 3rd - Red Wine Bwana

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Michael Nolan: “She started off with three wins and then went terrible. She had to have a wind operation and it was good to see her come back strong. I didn’t think she would lead but I guess the track record speaks for itself.”

Jockey Amy Taylor: “Gee she’s fast. She had no trouble crossing to the rail and I just let her go. They were scrubbing along trying to stay with her, but they couldn’t. She was too good.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Zahbaj, which was fractious in the barriers, dropped its head as the start was effected and as a result jumped away extremely awkwardly, dislodging jockey P. Wolfgram. Connections were advised that a barrier certificate must be provided for Zahbaj prior to its next race start. Near the 500m, Conflicted (L. McCoy) was placed in restricted room between Falah (W. Clasohm) and Barbintary Eye (J. Murphy), which shifted in away from Hodges Street (D. Craven), which was inclined to lay in. Chardonair (A. Badger) and Koomerang Too (S. Richardson) raced wide throughout. Courtyard Circle lost its near fore plate in running. Love That Magic bled during the event. Trainer M. Price was advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Race 8:

QTIS Class 2 Handicap - 1350m
1st - King Of Spirit; 2nd – Auscoal; 3rd - Periander

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Syd Watters: “He’s been going over 1000m and 1200m and hitting the line hard. I wanted to try him over further and so I came here because it is a relatively easy track - and he came through.”

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
A pre-race veterinary examination Overruling (C. Reith) revealed a small amount of blood on the outside of the lip. Overruling was cleared to race. Spanish Pal (G. Baker) was slow to begin. Approaching the 1200m, Falling Star (J. Bowditch) shifted in and bumped Johnny Aucash (C. Whiteley), resulting in Falling Star becoming unbalanced. Near the 1000m, Auscaol (J. Byrne) and Falling Star were cramped for room by King Of Spirit (M. Hughes), which shifted in. M. Hughes, rider King Of Spirit, was advised to exercise more care. G. Baker, rider of Spanish Pal, was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of his whip on a horse out of contention.
